Hey Everyone,

Sorry for the delay in new news, it's been an odd week.  Kathy and John are stable for the moment, but clean up-efforts need to start soon, and they will have to pull pretty much every piece of burned debris out of the hole and have it trucked to a toxic waste dump a significant distance from Almora.  It's going to be time-consuming and expensive, and they could use any assistance they can get.  After this task, they will begin the planning involved in rebuilding.

I'm still getting a surprising number of questions about how to get donations and assistance to them, and the news today is that there is a benefit fund set up at Wells Fargo called the "Almora Fire Benefit Fund" that you can send to electronically from any WF account online, or in person at any Wells Fargo branch.  The teller can look up the numbers by that name, or you can use the following account number from your WF online account:

Below you'll see the remains of the Olesen/Nordquist photo collection...which turns out to be one singular button/pin from my 6th grade football pictures.  I'm hoping to get as much of this replaced as I can, so if you have any pictures of any of us (Mom, John, Ben, Dan, dogs/cats, house in Coon Rapids, etc...) please let me know or send digital copies to benno at nordquist dot com or you can send physical copies or reproductions to the PO box listed in the help section.

Hi everyone. Dan here again.

One question I answer a lot about the fire is "what about the studio?"
The studio is (fortunately) located miles away from John and Kathy's
house, and was not affected by the fire. It's still there, and most
(maybe all?) of inventory is kept there.

If you want to show support for John and Kathy and feel strange about
it or aren't sure how, I encourage you to visit the studio's website
and buy some glass. It can't hurt.

I got down in the basement and found several hot spots and some flames.  Scot did find our big cast iron skillet and lid-- I think they might need to be re seasoned.  We only got those because who ever had been in there digging around didn't know where to look.  I think anybody that digs though the smoking remains of my house... ( OK I've been thinking about what to write next for 2hrs) I can't describe what I think. All descriptions melt down into a long series of grumbling and swearing. Anyone who would steal from people who have just lost EVERYTHING they have ever owned .... I just don't understand.

We have been taken in and fed and clothed, and given so much love and encouragement. Thanks so much for all the kindnesses everyone has shown us. We are able to stay with Jennifer as long as we need to, and are looking into how we can manage to build buy or move a home to get settled again. Our animals are even doing great with this temporary situation. Pretty overwhelming for all of us! I think the reality of it all is starting to settle in. I am just so indescribably sad today. But we are really fine thanks to so many kind and thoughtful people. You are all wonderful!

Benno here; Dan's brother and Kathy's son to those that don't know me.  I live just a few miles from Mom and John's place in Almora, so I was there at 8am the morning after the blaze.  They are hanging in there, but still probably in some shock as you will be after an event like this.  Anyway, here are some additional pics from Monday morning.

They've been able to continue to stay with a friend.
